ОТТ1L Orange wine 2023
Limited quantity of 1500 bottles.
OTT1L is an orange wine from the Muscat Ottonel variety. Its color has the intense orange hue characteristic of this type of wine. The aroma is richly floral, typical of the Muscat Otonel variety, slightly spicy and at the same time with hints of citrus fruit. It is bottled unfiltered.
Terroir: The vineyards are located on the low, hilly slopes of Sredna Gora, in the region of the village of Lesichovo, between 250-350m above sea level, whose layout determines the uniform exposure to the sun. The Topolnitsa River crosses the village in its lower course and is a leading factor for the mild microclimate, contributing to the full and timely ripening of the grapes. They are grown organically, without the use of pesticides and herbicides, and are nourished by manure and weeding between the rows. For this specific, non-standard type of wine, we have determined a plot located on mostly alluvial soils, characterised by their water permeability. The presence of tree and shrub vegetation at one end of the plot, as well as the proximity of an irrigation channel at the other, help retain water. The inter-row weeding we practice also works to prevent possible drought as well as to nourish the young vines. The formation is Cordon, and the yield is 3700 kg/ha.
Harvesting and vinification: Harvesting is entirely manual, which allows selection of the grapes already on the field. The process is repeated when the
grapes are received, after which they go through a destemming and fermentation stage. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out on whole grapes and takes place in stainless steel tanks. During the process, relatively low temperatures and minimal intervention are maintained in order to more gently extract phenolic compounds from the skins of the grapes. After the alcoholic fermentation is complete, it is pressed and kept with the solid parts for about two weeks. The wine is bottled unfiltered in a limited quantity of 1500 bottles.
Tasting notes: The colour has the intense orange hue characteristic of this type of wine. The aroma is richly floral, typical of the Muscat Ottonel variety, slightly spicy and at the same time with hints of citrus fruit. On the palate, a good phenolic reserve is felt, but with a soft and pleasant structure. It has a fresh acidity that perfectly balances the combination of sweetness and tannins in the taste. Tones of lychee, quince, floral elements are detected. The aftertaste is long with a memorable hint of honey and well-ripened yellow apples and wild pears, combined with well-defined grassy nuances.
Pairing with food: Due to its specificity, orange wine is great for combining with meat dishes and those with a rich texture and cream base. The gentle and integrated tannins of OTT1L make it also pleasant to drink on its own, but it is a reliable partner for soft and aged cheeses as well.
